The Ford Expedition is a landmark large SUV, Ford Motor Company’s biggest. For years, families have looked to it to haul their crew to and from sports practice, on road-trip vacations, and around town.

The latest model announced for 2022, we’re pleased to say, exceeds our expectations and should excite new car shoppers when they visit the Ford dealership near them, like Zeck Ford in Purcell, Oklahoma.

Expedition Overview

The Ford Expedition and its even bigger brother, the Expedition Max, are the automakers largest family-haulers, with three rows of seats in a roomy cabin that can be described as “cavernous.” The third row is even comfortable for adults, if they need to ride back there.

The large SUV seats up to eight, if you opt for the middle-row bench seat, and boasts nearly 21 cubic feet of cargo area with all seats in use. Fold them down for a massive 104.6 cubic feet of space.

A V6 is standard on all Expedition models, with the opportunity to upgrade to more horsepower or larger engines, depending on the trim level you choose.

What’s New on the 2022 Ford Expedition?

Ford Motor Company gave the new Expedition a bit of a glow-up with revised styling on both the interior and the exterior, plus new features and options to customize your ride.

The upgraded cabin reminds us of the Ford F-150, with improved interior quality over the last model year, thanks to an overhauled infotainment system with a 12-inch or 15.5-inch touchscreen.

And drivers can now relax a little on the road, as the new model year incorporates the much-awaited BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology, on the Platinum trim level.

The rugged Timberline model delivers 33-inch all-terrain tires and greater ground clearance, while the brand-new Stealth Performance package on the Limited trim offers a darkly sporty appearance, with sport-tuned suspension and a powerful twin-turbo V-6.

Engine and Performance

A 3.5-liter V-6 with 10-speed automatic transmission are standard, with either all-wheel or rear-wheel drive. The standard engine hits 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, with the option for more on the Limited trim, Timberline trim, and the Stealth Performance package.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the standard V-6 with rear-wheel drive achieves up to 17 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway. The all-wheel drive version is only slightly less efficient, so new car buyers can opt for this safety feature without guilt over the environment.

An independent rear suspension makes for a smooth ride for everyone aboard, so sleeping children can continue to snooze, even as mom or dad power over rough highways.

The Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds, with the Max capped at 9,000 pounds, which is plenty for weekend trips with the camper or pontoon boat.

Expedition Safety Features Protect Your Precious Cargo

Ford has been long-known for including plenty of standard safety features, but the 2022 model year also includes impressive driver-assistance technology, like BlueCruise, and Trail Turn Assist on the off-roading Timberline model.

Other key safety features include standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking; available lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist; and available adaptive cruise control.

Trim Level Recommendations

Car industry experts who test drive new releases overwhelmingly recommend the Limited trim level for new car shoppers looking for big bang for their buck from their Oklahoma Ford dealer.

The Limited includes desirable leather-trimmed seats, a powerful Bang & Olufsen premium stereo, and power-operated running boards. The aforementioned Stealth Performance Package is available on the trim, delivering 440 horsepower, dark exterior details, and 22-inch wheels. For Oklahoma winters and rainy seasons, we recommend an upgrade to all-wheel drive as well.

2022 Ford Expedition Warranty

The 2022 model year large SUV comes with Ford’s standard warranty package, which does not offer complimentary scheduled maintenance.

New car buyers will receive a limited warranty, covering three years or 36,000 miles on the odometer – whichever comes first – and a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
